It is with love and heartfelt sadness that we announce that Rich Hunihan, age 77, of Washington, New Hampshire, Hope Sound, Florida and formerly of Tenedine Drive, North Haven for thirty years passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013. He was the devoted husband of 49 years to Karen (Griffin) Hunihan. Rich was born in New Haven on June 17, 1935; son of the late Richard and Anna (Griffin) Hunihan. He was a United States Marine Corp. veteran of the Korean War. He was a Notre Dame High School graduate and received his associate’s degree from Quinnipiac University. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile and his devotion to his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. Father of Richard (Toni) Hunihan III of Granby, Sharon (Mark) Paine, Jr. of Milford and Kathleen (Robert) Cabana of Glastonbury. Grandfather of Connor Hunihan, Rebecca Paine, Mark Paine III, Ryan, Kyle and Erin Cabana.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Tuesday morning at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church 10:00 am. Interment with full military honors will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. The visiting hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 pm.
