George Richard Ross, Jr., 73, of 216 Quinnipiac Avenue, North Haven, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Smilow Cancer Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara Martino Ross. George was born in New Haven on August 27, 1939; son of the late George R. Ross, Sr. and Josephine Burnes Ross; served his country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force during the Lebanon Conflict; worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years until his retirement. George was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Curtain Council of West Haven; an excellent baseball player in his younger days; umpired West Haven Softball; was an avid golfer and bowler; was a Boston Red Sox and N. Y. Rangers fan. Father of Kevin G. Ross and his wife Ashley (Michalowski) Ross. Also survived by the love of his life, his grandson Brayden Samuel Ross who brought him much happiness. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Dr. Brett Gerstenhaber whose excellent care helped George for so many years; also to the nurses and staff at the Smilow Cancer Hospital Radiation Center for all their comforting care and unconditional compassion.
Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven on Tuesday morning, April 23rd at 10:00 to attend a mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal services immediately following in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. There will be no visiting hours.
