Alessio Izzo, 87, of Guilford, a former sixty year resident of West Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 at the St. Raphael’s Campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria Elena Mazzarella Izzo. Alessio was born in Castel Marrone, Italy on October 31, 1925; son of the late Giovanni and Antonia Carlino Izzo and had worked for many years in West Haven as a cabinet maker. He had a wonderful life spending many hours with family, friends and especially his granddaughters. Many fond memories of backyard BBQs and late night basement parties. He enjoyed helping friends and family make wine, then enjoying the wine…and top it off with an expresso and a shot of anisette. Beloved father of John Izzo and his partner Frank Romano of Guilford, Antoinette Izzo-Turner and her husband Robert Turner of Cape Coral, Florida. Loving nonno of Michelle Izzo Royster and her husband Geoffrey Royster, Danielle Izzo and her fiancé Joshua Korshandi all of Milford. Beloved brother of Marianna Acabbo of West Haven and the late Rosa, Luigi, Raffaele, Giuseppe and Stefano. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by a nephew John Acabbo. The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff at The Guilford House for their many hours of hard work, help, and just being a friend to Alessio. It made the last few years of his life peaceful, comforting and memorable. He loved all of you ! His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday morning at 9:15. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Church of the Resurrection, Wallingford at 10:00. Entombment will follow in the All Saints Mausoleum.
