James “Bones” Kenney, 77, of Davenport, FL passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of 57 years to Rose Christoforo Kenney. James was born in New Haven on January 17, 1938; son of the late Harry James Kenney and Dorothy Nagel Kenney McCormack. Jim taught math at Amity and North Haven High Schools for 35 years, and coached football and basketball. Jim was also owner of Verneris Quality Siding Company for 34 years. Bones was an accomplished athlete and member of the Notre Dame, ’54 undefeated football team and was an inductee into their Knights of Honor.  He played football at Boston University, was the recipient of the prestigious John Pappas Award and later was inducted into the BU Hall of Fame and also honored by the New Haven Grid Iron Club. Jim and Rose raised their family in Northford. They enjoyed their retirement years in Davenport Florida and at their Lake house in Holland Mass, where he treasured times spent with his many friends. Jim was especially known for his 4th of July fireworks display. They also enjoyed traveling to Aruba, Mexico, Italy, Hawaii and many cruises. Jim loved to garden and his flowers were admired by many. Jim was also active in the catholic churches wherever he lived; past trustee of St. Monica’s Northford, member of Totoket Council Knights of Columbus. Father of Susan (Vera Levis) Kenney, James (Cindy) Kenney, Jr., Anne (John) Paine.  Proud Gramps of Kaitlyn (Ensign) Kenney Simmons, Stephen Orts, James Kenney III (Fiancée Jessica Statkus), Stephanie Paine, Michael Orts, John Paine, Jr. and was a regular attendee at all of his grandchildren’s activities.  Loving brother of Alan (Honora) Kenney. Brother-in-law of John and Pat Christoforo, Janet and Dan Schmitt, Louis and Lucille Fusco and Mary Carroll. His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday morning, at 9:30am.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Monica’s Church at 10 am.  Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.  The visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 pm.
