Achille Vincenzo “Vinny” DiVirgilio, 76, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 15th, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael campus. He was the beloved husband of Adriana Mosca DiVirgilio and would have been married 53 years on April 19th. Vinny was born in Gioia Sannitica, Province of Caserta, Italy on September 23, 1944 and was the son of the late Carlo and Rosa Vingione DiVirgilio. He was the owner and operator of Italia Importing Company, Grand Avenue, New Haven for fifty years, and the former owner of Adriana’s Restaurant. Loving father of Rose (Scott) Polinsky and Cristina (Youssef) Abdouh. Beloved papa of Giuliana and Sofia. Brother of Michael (Lucia) DiVirgilio, Lorenzo (Maria) DiVirgilio, Salvatore (Mirella) DiVirgilio, Maria (Gino) Bianchi, Elena Corona, Concetta Labagnara and the late Alessandro DiVirgilio. Predeceased by his brother-in-laws Alessio Labagnara and Giuseppe Corona. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. To know him was to love and respect him, he will truly be missed.
Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven on Tuesday, April 27th, at 12:00 to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in All Saints Cemetery. (masks and social distancing required for all services) In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
He was a great man he also was very good to me when I was sick. We last saw each other in the hospital at st rays laying in the hallway together talking and laughing. Vinny and the family became close Rosa and Cristina felt like they were my sisters. They are an awesome family and I’m very sad that I lost a good friend. I will miss him very much.
