Alfred Tonto, 94, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28th, 2022 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to the late Angelina “Angie” Onofrio Tonto. Alfred was born in New Haven on March 31, 1928 and was the son of the late Anthony and Maria Angellini Tonto. He served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean War. Alfred had worked for Finast Foods for 40 years and at Stop & Shop for 25 years until his retirement. Al and Angie enjoyed taking frequent trips to the casino. Al also enjoyed playing cards, going to the North Haven Green on Tuesday evenings in the summer for the concerts and really enjoyed seeing Paul Anka and Tony Orlando with his daughter. A devote New York Yankees and New York Giants fan, Al was dedicated to his family who he loved unconditionally and along with his daughter and son-in-law was a very big part of the upbringing of his grandchildren. Father of Donna Conte, father-in-law of Peter Conte, Sr. Grandfather of Peter Conte, Jr. and Christopher Conte. Predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
The visiting hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven on Thursday morning, Nov. 3rd at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
