Andrew Alphonse Gambardella, 93, of New Haven died peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Friday, February 10th, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle.  He was the loving husband of 67 years to the love of his life, the late Angela Rose (Honey) Perrotti Gambardella. Born in New Haven on September 1, 1929, he was the son of the late Alfonse and Louise Appicelli Gambardella and was a lifelong city resident. Andrew served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged as a First Sergeant. Before retiring, he was a Support Enforcement Supervisor with the State of Connecticut and prior to that was a long-time employee of Marlin Firearms. He sold insurance for the Catholic Knights of St. George. He was also a communicant at St. Rose of Lima Church for over 60 years, taking over for his dad.   He is survived by his beloved children Alphonse A. Gambardella (Cynthia), Andrew Scott Gambardella and Janet Gambardella Bracale (Joseph), his eight loving grandchildren Dana, Steven, Tara, Gabrielle, and Paige Gambardella, Erica and Brandon Martone and Adrianna Bracale; his great granddaughters, Rosella and Mariella Corso and a great grandson on the way. Brother of Ann Marie Afragola, Elizabeth Compagnuolo, Carol Casapulo and the late Catherine Castaldo, Lucille Daddio, Louise Gambardella and Peter Gambardella.  He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Gail Ann Gambardella and grandson Andrew C. Gambardella.  Andrew was a Ward Chairman for the Republican Party in New Haven and also served on the local Federal Selective Service Draft Board. A lifetime member of the Elm City Gun Club, and the Annex YMA. He was also a member of the Branford Elks Club, West Haven Italian American Civic Association, Sacred Heart Academy Father’s Club and President of the Marlins Credit Union and the State of CT Retirees. Andrew embraced his Italian heritage and his veteran status. He loved working outdoors, golfing, clamming, crabbing and planting his vegetable gardens each summer. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather who kept a close watch on all. He looked forward to visits from his family and friends and instilled in them a love for life. He had an amazing memory and continually shared stories of his childhood, his friends and his time in the U.S. Army. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ben Evans, Andrew’s longtime homecare aid and friend, for all the love and devotion he provided over the years.

The visiting hours will be Thursday, Feb. 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning, Feb. 17th at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow with full military honors in All Saints Cemetery.
