Theresa A. DeLucia Orts, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2015 after a long illness. She was the beloved mother of Geralyn (Karl) Sears of Vestal, New York, Joseph Orts of Branford and Terri (James) Carey of Wallingford. She was the proud grandmother of Jennifer (Alan) Gutowski, Katherine Sears, Michael and Stephen Orts, and Ryan and Andrew Carey. She was predeceased by her parents, Salvatore and Anna Delucia as well as her sisters, Joan Losty and Marlene Montesi. Sister-in-law of Bruce Losty and Rick Montesi. She also had many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved very much. Theresa was born in New Haven on December 1, 1932 and grew up on her parent’s farm in Woodbridge. She is a 1953 graduate of the St. Raphael’s School of Nursing where she proudly became an RN. She worked at Arden House Nursing Home in Hamden for over thirty years as a head nurse. Theresa was a resident of North Haven where she raised her three children and loved her neighborhood and community. She was a parishioner at St. Barnabas Church. What she treasured most in life was the time she spent with her children and grandchildren as well as holidays with her sisters and their families. She loved her home and was a wonderful cook, baker and overall homemaker. She had beautiful perennial gardens in her yard that she took such good care of. She enjoyed traveling with her family throughout New England loving in particular Cape Cod and the coast of Maine and enjoyed visiting Aruba, Bermuda and Mexico. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Regency House of Wallingford and Atria Larson Place Assisted Living of Hamden who cared for Theresa throughout the past few years.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Thursday morning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Food Bank, P.O. Mrs. Orts was a warm, pleasant, and loving mom. She was the kind of person you feel blessed to have known. All of our best wishes go out to the family.
Theresa took great care of everyone she knew. I have great memories of her home on country way and her wonderful laugh. I will truly miss this special lady – a 'mom' of the neighborhood. My deepest condolences and live to Gerry, Joe and Terri.
