Janet M. Corraro Dowd, 60, of East Haven, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of James Dowd for 39 years. Janet was born in New Haven on May 26, 1954; daughter of the late Martin E. and Susan Savo Corraro. Janet’s home and heart was opened to many young people seeking guidance, advice or maybe just a hug; she was a comforter, caregiver, friend and was affectionately known as the “community mother”. Loving mother of Jessica Dowd and James Dowd, Jr. Loving sister of Linda (Joseph) Russo. Grammy to her precious Payton Orosco who was the light of her life. Beloved aunt of Joey Russo and Lisa (Jamie) Rivard. Also survived by many nieces and nephews from the Dowd family.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Wednesday morning at 10:15 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent de Paul Church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm. Our hearts are broken. Janet was always generous, kind, and welcoming to anyone in her home. She loved to laugh and to tease. Somehow she always made you feel special in her presence and that she treasured each and every interaction. Unfortunately, there are far too few of her kind in this world, and we are all at a loss because of this. John just keeps saying, "my little cousin." All we have are memories, but at least there are many, many good ones.

Janet was a caregiver to both of my parents for a short time in 2013. She was a joy to both of them and our entire family. My 89 year old father loved talking to her and Janet gave him some of his last bright moments while still at home. We are truly saddened by her loss and our prayers go out to her family

I am truly sorry for your loss. Although I did not know your loved one personally, my heart goes out to you during this very difficult time. In times like this I have found comfort in God's promises recorded at Revelation 21:4 & John 5:28,29, where it is promised that sickness & death will be done away with but that our loved one is safe in God's memory and we will be able to be reunited with them again. These promises may seem unrealistic because of what we experience now, but I hope that knowing our loving Heavenly Father longs to do these things (Job 14:14,15) can bring you some comfort until these promises are fulfilled.
