Donald W. Grannis, 69, of Northford passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2015 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Nann Grannis. Donald was born in New Haven on April 24, 1945; son of the late Arthur D. and Helen Chiocchio Grannis; was a graduate of the University of New Haven earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and was the owner and operator of B&D Appliance for 32 years. Donald had coached little league in North Branford, was an avid fan of the UCONN Girls & Boys basketball teams, NY Yankees and NY Giants. Father of Tracie and Jennifer Grannis, Erin (Dale) VanDeWater and Justin Grannis. Brother of Barbara (Ben)LaMonica. Grandfather of Erik VanDeWater. Son-in-law of Ethel and Edward Nann. Uncle of Denise (Vinnie) Carr and Mark (Adriana) LaMonica. Brother-in-law of Patricia Nann (Duane Gray).
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Thursday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Stephen Church, Hamden at 10:00. Interment will follow in the Northford Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
I have the fondest memories of don. We had a great time watching our girls in cheer leading competitions. May he rest in peace. My deepest sympathies to all of you.
