Cynthia D. Gedney James, 74, North Haven passed away peacefully after a long illness with cancer on Tuesday, March 3rd at the Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford, CT.  Wife of Philip M. James for 52 years.   Cindy was born in Putnam, CT on July 23, 1940.  Daughter of the late Warren and Gertrude Beckert Gedney.  She is survived by her loving children, Brian A. James, of San Francisco, CA, and Carla S. (Michael) Hill, of Needham, MA.  She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Karleen) Gedney, and nieces Kimberley Gedney and Kelley (Stephen) Panteleakous, and nephew Paul (Holly) Gedney all of Moosup, CT and sister-in-law Marcia C. (Richard) Carthaus of Naples, FL & Edina, MN. Cindy worked in education in the business offices of Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Connecticut (UConn), as a teacher’s aide in North Haven, and  at the Hamden Town Hall.  She was a longstanding former member of the Northeast Fire Association Ladies Auxiliary, where her husband served as Northeast Volunteer Fire Company commanding officer for over 30 years.  She enjoyed tennis, flower gardening, the New England Coast Line, the Owenego Beach Club, and island vacations with friends.  An avid supporter of all Boston sports teams and UConn basketball, she could inform you of any score.

Funeral services will be held in the North Haven Congregational Church, 28 Church St., Monday, March 9th at 11.00 a.m., Rev. Scott Morrow officiating.  Interment will follow in the North Haven Center Cemetery on Elm Street.  Reception following services at Bellini’s, 2 Broadway at Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT. Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 8th from 2 – 5 pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either The North Haven Congregational Church, 28 Church Street, North Haven, CT 06473 or the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale, Box 1849, New Haven, CT  06508; alternatively a cancer research charity of your choosing.
