Barbara Griffith Doolittle, 85, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Twin Maple Health Care, Durham. She was born in New Haven on September 15, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Everett and Mildred Durley Griffith of Hamden. Barbara served her country faithfully in the US Naval Reserves before settling down and raising a family. She worked for the North Haven Board of Education for many years before becoming a legal assistant for Nationwide Insurance until her retirement. Barbara was a devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang in their choir as well as many others over the years, including Mt. Carmel Congregational Church, Faith Methodist Church and the New Haven Redeemer Oratorio Choir. She enjoyed music, crafting and collecting postcards and was interested in many things especially the history of New Haven County and the role of her family history in it. Barbara truly loved life and was always a “glass half full” person with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Loving mother to Dara (John F.) Fiorillo and Ted Doolittle. Beloved grand-aunt of John A. (Jenny) Fiorillo. She was also predeceased by her former husband Edwin A. Doolittle.
The visiting hours will be Saturday, April 30TH from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A service will be conducted in the St. John’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 am. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Restoration Fund c/o St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3 Trumbull Place, North Haven, CT 06473.
