Mary C. Motta Benoit, 89, of Durham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Lionel Benoit. Mary was born in New Bedford, MA on December 28, 1923; daughter of the late Francisco and Rosa Freidas Motta; had worked as a seamstress for the former Amy Sue, Inc. until her retirement; was an active parishioner of Notre Dame Church, Durham having been a member of the craft group and the “Holy Rollers” meatball sub makers for the Durham Fair. Mother of Ronald (Jacqueline) Benoit, Richard (Rosemary) Benoit, Rosemarie (David) Scroggins and the late Albert Benoit. Grandmother of Jonathan Benoit, Deanna Lewis, Kimberly, Kelly and Jeffrey Scroggins. Sister of James Motta and the late Frank, Antonio, Buonoventura “Tut” Motta.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Friday morning at 10:45. Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 am. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Notre Dame Church at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Unit, 7th Flr., Middlesex Hospital, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
