Richard E. Fennelly, Jr., 66, of Whitney Avenue, Hamden, passed away on Friday morning, May 29, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving and devoted sons, John A. Fennelly and Richard E. Fennelly, III. Richard was born in New Haven on February 14, 1949; son of the late Richard E. Fennelly, Sr. and Gloria Eagan Fennelly. Richard graduated from Canterbury Prep School where he was a member of the varsity soccer, swimming and football teams, and then graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology. A man of many hobbies, Richard was a pilot, an artist, a chef, and a photographer. He also loved the Caribbean, particularly the island of Montserrat which he cherished. Richard had many fond memories sailing, traveling, and working on projects with his best friend, Donald Lippencott. During his career, Richard was the president of Southern New England Typographic Services and then later worked at GHP Media, Inc. in West Haven before retiring. Sister of Susan (Ken) Minnick, Diane (Donald) Lippencott, Patrick Henry Fennelly II, James Thomas Fennelly, Timothy (Wendy) Fennelly and the late John Anthony Fennelly.
The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue has been entrusted with the arrangements.
My thoughts are with the entire Fennelly family during this very difficult time. I will always remember his impish grin and his devotion to his sons, Richard and John.
With my sympathy,
Susan
Our thoughts are with Richard's sons, Rich and John, as well as family and friends. While we are far away, we are there in spirit, reflecting on the loss of brother and compadre, but also rejoicing in the bounty of our shared experiences–the Hippie late 60s and 70s, working together at SNET, building projects, weddings, raising our boys and a wide variety of hands-on
vacations and escapes.
We salute you, Rich, as a man of character from beginning to end and your memory will be in our hearts and actions as we continue with family and friends on life's path. With much love, Diane & Don
I have known Richard for many years. My dad, Bill Haury worked at SNEType for over 35 years and I worked there for almost 10 years and my mom, Betty Haury, took care of family members years ago. I told Joe Pat to give him my best and Richard and Joe were talking about my dad and joking around. My dad was a good man for Southern New England Typographic Service. I started working there in Jan. 1982-Aug. 1991.
I give my condolences to the family and the Brothers that I do know, Tim and Jim who I believe both worked at the Shop. I'm sure I've met all the family at one time or another because of my mom being a nurse and the fun Outings we had.
God Bless All at this time of Need.
Karen Haury
I am so sorry to hear of Richards passing, my thoughts and prayers are with his sons and the rest of the family.
Having worked with Richard for over 20 years and knowing him for 40 years has caused a flood of memories to come rushing back to me. I hope we can all find comfort in this old Irish Blessing.
“Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in fond memory comfort you tomorrow.”
My warmest regards to all – Rich Bright
I'll always remember the sweetness of Richard. My thoughts go to Rich and John, such devoted sons over these rough months. with compassion to all in his family who share this loss.
With a heavy heart I send condolences to the Fennelly family. They were a large family with even larger hearts. I loved every moment that I spent with them. The loss of their Mom, Gloria and brother John has been difficult for all of us. My heart goes out to Jim..dearest to me of all. Rest in peace Richard. It seems you had a good life…Your neighbor, Anne Amore
We are so sorry Richard had to leave so soon. We'll miss him at family parties, his quiet thoughtfulness, so rare and refreshing in this large, noisy family! So singularly brave right to the end, too. Our love to young Richard and John and the whole family.

Dear Richard and Jon,
Your Dad was a great man and friend. We will always remember the great times we shared at your home in Madison. He will be missed dearly. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Love Joe & Joni
I am very sorry to learn of Richard's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his sons and extended family.
We spent many hours over the years discussing the world over a few cold beverages. Richard was a wonderful friend and I will miss his smile and keen sense of humor. Rest in peace, Rich.
My sympathy to (as he is called by some) Young Rich and John, Richard's sons. You both made
Rich very proud.
Over the years I've been closely associated with Don and Diane, and acquainted with most of
the Fennelly family, my condolences to all off you.
Angela

May he rest in peace.

When I think back on my high school and college years, many of my memories come from hanging out with Rich and John at the Fennelly home in North Madison. Mr. Fennelly was always welcoming and kind to me and our group of friends. I'll always remember him and those fun memories!
I'll be keeping the Fennelly family in my thoughts and prayers. With condolences, Meghan Jay
I don't check obituaries often enough and I am sorry to have missed this. I last saw Richard at lunch in New Haven. We shared a cocktail, or two, several times, until I left the job I had downtown. I have many memories of SNEType, working my way up the ladder from apprentice starting with phone records. Remember those? Back in the metal days. Printed out by Gene Baker on that "eye ease green bond" paper. I moved up over the years ending my career there as a Foreman.
My condolences to the whole family.
My sincere condolences to Richard, John and all of Rich's family and friends. We will all miss him and his brusque but good-natured humor.
I worked with Richard at GHP and many years ago with his typesetting company. And will miss his BIG smile. Fun loving and always upbeat. We swam and played football against each other Hopkins versus Canterbury for years.
God speed my friend,
Hervey
