Carmel DeMelio Verdi, 100 of North Haven, died on March 21, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Clement (Tony) Verdi. Survivors include her sons Louis from North Haven and Ronald (Cindy) Verdi from Wallingford, Her daughters Donna Verdi from North Haven and Gail (Rick) Tschappat from Cape Coral, FL. Grand children Gage Tschappat and Jessica and Ryan (Krista) Verdi and Great Grand Daughter, Aria Verdi. In addition to her husband, She was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Virginia Bosco DeMelio, her brothers Nicolas and Ralph (Johanna) DeMelio of West Haven and her sisters Rose (Mack) Torino of East Haven and Olympia (Aldo) Bergami of North Haven. Carmel was employed by the City of New Haven for 24 years as a cafeteria worker, primarily at Lee High School. She worked there from the opening of Lee High School in 1967 to its closing in 1984. Carmel was also active in various clubs. She was a member of the Venice Club, the St. Peters Rosary Society, the Notre Dame Mother’s Club. She was also a member of the Widow and Widowers Club of West Haven. Carmel had a variety of interests and hobbies. She loved cooking and was always eager to promote a family picnic. The family was always willing to accommodate her! She enjoyed music and dancing with her friends. Carmel also loved her visits to the Tschappat “Resort” in Florida. Later in life, she enjoyed long rides, lunch at Wharton Brook Park, and watching the children play at Blakeslee Ave Park. A child could never walk past her, without her smiling and waving. Carmel had a positive impact on everyone she met. Her great granddaughter Aria was a great source of happiness in her final years. Even at a very young age, Aria had a special relationship with Nonny, always looking at her and including her in every activity!

The visiting hours will be Sunday, March 27, from 3 to 6 pm in The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home, Monday morning, March 28, at 9:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Road, Wallingford at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
