Carmine A. “Chip” Hillo, 74, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of 41 years to Joan Sansone Hillo. Chip was born in New Haven on October 1, 1946 and was the son of the late Frank and Mary Liguori Hillo. He served his country faithfully in the US Navy. He was a former member of Pine Grove Men’s Club. Chip had worked as a barber in the Navy and continued in the profession after his honorable discharge from the military for many years. He was a self-employed carpenter, later a driver for the former Airborne Express, now DHL Express and the Whitney Center in Hamden. Chip was an avid New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Penguins fan and enjoyed many trips to Italy. Father of Angela (Bill) Dawson and the late Craig Hillo. Grandfather of Eli, Caleb, and Charlee Dawson. Brother of Maria (Peter) Stevenson, Andrew “Chick” (Rochelle) Carrano and the late Donald Carrano. Loving Papa of Paige Licata. Also survived by his beloved “Dolly”, Arianna DeMatteo, nephew Peter (Jennifer) Stevenson, niece Kimberly Stevenson, and great-niece Isabella Stevenson.
Family and friends are invited to go directly to Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue on Monday, March 8th at 12 noon to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in All Saints Mausoleum. (masks and social distancing strictly required for all services) Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to Craig Hillo Memorial Sports Scholarship Fund, 78 Blue Hills Road, North Haven, CT 06473 or CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. Due to Covid-19 there will not be a gathering after the conclusion at the mausoleum, gathering will take place at a later date. The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue have been entrusted with the arrangements.

There are no words. Chip was an incredible man and along with Joan an amazing couple. One of the most caring ,generous ,giving guys I’ve ever had the honor to know. Not to mention funny as hell. Love you Chip. RIP and fly with your Angel Craig.

I have a heavy heart as we go through the next couple of days saying good-bye to my cousin Chip. Every time I watch a Yankee game I will think of you as I really think it is because of you I am a Yankee fan!!! You were so lovingly taken care of by your wife and daughter and other family members that it shows how much you are loved. I will miss you so much and will never stop loving you . RIP my dear cousin
