Carole Jane Deuss Shukis, 77, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Yale New Haven Hospital with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Joseph William Shukis, Jr. Carole was born in New Haven on February 26, 1940; daughter of the late John F. and Mary E. Cook Deuss; was a Medical Assistant for over 30 years, 12 of which were at Yale Health Plan; enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. Aunt of Larry & Billy Valintas, Karen Doonan, Mary-Nelle Burgh, Karen Porto and Christine Smith. Also loved by many cousins. Predeceased by her brother, John Deuss.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 pm. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Closer to Free Fund, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508, which jointly supports Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven and Yale Cancer Center.
