Chester Joseph Sawicki, 94, long time resident of North Haven, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 19th at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.  He was the beloved husband of Ann H. Rybacki Sawicki for 70 years.  Chester was born in New Haven on September 28, 1927 and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Gublo Sawicki.  He was the loving father of Debra Sawicki of Wallingford and Gary (Penny) Sawicki of Durham and the proud Dzia-Dziu of Jonathan, Daniel and Matthew Sawicki.  Brother of Helen Kosack, he was predeceased by sister Frances Dombrowski, brother Richard Sawicki, stepmother Agnes Sawicki, and stepsisters Stella Rak and Lillian Jesudowich.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Chester attended schools in New Haven, proudly served his country faithfully in the US Army during World War II and was the former owner of Sawicki Oil Company.  He enjoyed music (especially Polkas), dancing, reading and was a fan of the Red Sox.  He was always ready with a quick joke, making friends wherever he went. Chester traveled to many foreign countries on vacations with friends and enjoyed winters in Florida and family get togethers in Vermont.  Chester was hard working and dedicated to his family who he loved completely and unconditionally and was proud of each and every one of them.  He especially took pride in the lives and endeavors of his grandsons.  He was always willing to lend a hand to friends and relatives whenever the need arose, never expecting anything in return.

The visiting hours will be on Monday, Nov. 29th at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Stanislaus Church, New Haven at 11:00.  Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
