Sophie DelFranco Appi, 71, of New Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the St. Raphael campus of Yale New Haven Hospital with her family by her side. She was the wife of Angelo J. Appi, Sr. Sophie was born in New Haven on September 20, 1943; daughter of the late James V. and Margaret Gasser DelFranco. She had worked for the former Woolco Company and Clintonville Manor both were located in North Haven. Sophie enjoyed country western dancing and crocheting; was a Yankee fan, Brownie, Girl Scout Leader, volunteered at the senior center, loved to bake, was a participant of the American Band Stand and a natural caregiver with a heart of gold. Mother of Deborah Dest and Angelo J. Appi, Jr. Grandmother of Gianna Appi, James (Kelly) Nazario, Jr., Jessalynn Dest, Robert Dest and Joseph W. Wenzel, Jr. Predeceased by her son-in-law Robert Dest, Jr., a sister Antoinette Laudano and a brother Sam DelFranco.

Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday morning at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Barnabas Church at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be on Sunday from 3 to 5 pm.
