Dennis Michael Cahill, 63, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2021, at his home in Bridgeport, CT.  He was born on February 11, 1958, in Brooklyn, NY, to James Joseph Cahill and Patricia Ann Cahill Schwartz, both of whom predecease him. His younger sister, Maureen Munzner, also predeceases him.  He is survived by another sister, Anne Marie Cahill, of Woodstock, Georgia, his brother-in-law Steven Munzner, and his two nephews Zachary and Alex Munzner, of North Haven, two Aunts, Maria Cahill, of Brooklyn, New York and Annette Cahill of San Ramon, California, and several cousins.  He is also survived by his best friend since high school, Joseph Skibek, Kathryn Skibek, and their three children Adam, Jason, and Jennifer, who were Dennis’ “second family”.  Adam, Jason, and Jennifer loved him dearly as their “honorary uncle”.  Dennis grew up in Fairfield, CT.  He was a Class of 1976 graduate from Roger Ludlowe H.S.  During his high school year’s, he was a top student, consistently making the Honor Roll and Dean’s List, and was recognized in Who’s Who in American High School Students.  He attended Cornell University and was a proud member of the Kappa Chapter of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.  He enjoyed cross country running and track and playing the trumpet.  He was also a loyal New York Mets fan.  Dennis battled mental health concerns and was homeless for several years.  His dear friend, Kathryn Skibek, encouraged and was able to persuade him to seek treatment.  He successfully resided for over twenty years at the Harrison Apartments on State Street in Bridgeport, CT.  Dennis was a member of the Alpha Community Service Organization and served over 25 years with the Alpha Community Services YMCA/Alpha Home, Inc. Board of Managers.  He also served as the President of the Tenants Association at Harrison Apartments for 20 years and he also served as a member of the Connecticut Housing Coalition.  His passion was to advocate for the homeless and help others and he walked the walk.  The family is sincerely grateful to Harrison Apartment, KRC, CASA, Alpha Community Services YMCA/Alpha Home Inc., and the other Bridgeport/Fairfield area support organizations that assisted Dennis throughout his adult life and enabled him to live a fulfilling life. 

The visiting hour will be on Monday, June 14th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at The     Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  A catholic service will be conducted in the funeral home at 11:00.  Interment will follow in New Center Cemetery, Elm Street, North Haven.  In lieu of flowers, Dennis would want, and the family requests monetary donations be made in his honor and memory to Alpha Community Services YMCA, 387 Clinton Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06605.
