My dad was sick in 1987. While caring for him we developed a relationship unlike ever we'd ever had. We were closer than ever but oddly enough, he became my best friend. While caring for him one day, I wanted to lean over and kiss him and tell him I loved him. But I couldn't find the words. I went home that day and received a phone call that he passed. As life went on, in many ways, John became my second dad. Despite choices I made in life, John and I had great respect for one another, and I was proud to say he was also my good friend. To those who know me this means a great deal. As John lay in bed those final days, I recalled much of the pain and suffering my dad had gone through. But John stayed true to form. As I stood by his bedside, with family all around, John called me over and motioned so as to whisper something in my ear. At that moment, John looked into my eyes and said, "I want you to know I love you." I looked in his eyes and said I loved him. This was the last we spoke. That will remain with me for the rest of my life. I miss you "John Boy." I know you're in a better place. May you rest in peace!
