Diane E. Cook Simkus, 84, of Wallingford, formerly of High Point Drive, Northford for many years passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1st, 2022.  She was the beloved wife and lifetime love of 63 years to Donald C. Simkus.   Diane was born in New Haven on June 2, 1938 and was the daughter of the late John and Martha Piontek Cook.  She served her country faithfully in the US Naval Reserves. Diane had worked as a bookkeeper for the former Sears & Roebuck of West Haven and later the New Haven Legal Aide until her retirement.  An excellent cook and hostess, Diane was happiest surrounded by those she loved sharing laughs, stories, an afternoon glass of wine, and wonderful meals. She instilled a lifetime of memories, love, and strength in all that knew her. She is survived by her son John E. Simkus (Dawn) of Wallingford, and the late Donna Knapp; five grandchildren Joe (Deidre) Salemme of North Branford; Jamie Salemme of Meriden; John (Laura) Simkus of Meriden; Jessica Simkus of Middletown; Sara (Chris) Webb of Calhoun, GA; a niece Jennifer Casey and nephew Brian (Veronica) Casey of Wallingford; plus four great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by her sister Kathleen (James) Casey.

The visiting hours will be Thursday morning, Sept. 8th from 9:00 to 11:00 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will follow in St Ambrose Parish at St. Monica’s Church, 1331 Middletown Avenue, Northford at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
