DIMITRI TAYLOR CRUZONI
Dimitri CruZoni, 60, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, with his family by his side. He was the son of Franklin Cruz and Florence Cruz, sister to Danilia. He was the beloved husband of Carla CruZoni and father of Spenser Dominic CruZoni. He grew up in Round Lake, NY, among close friends. He enjoyed sports and was on the wrestling team at Shenendehowa High School. After graduation Dimitri studied music before discovering his passion for cooking. He worked his way up in kitchens in Vermont, Oregon, and New York, and was chef and co-owner (along with wife Carla and brother-in law Joseph Franzoni) of Shore Point Café in Branford. After that, he was with Whole Foods Market for 14 years, where he was proud to be a mentor and friend to many. Dimitri was the beloved cousin of Tony (Lynn) Jones and their children Nina, Tony and Elena, and Reesa Glass and husband Scott Harrison; nephew to Irene Jones and Richard Jones. He was loved by mother and father- in law Angela and Gus Franzoni and brother and sister-in law Joseph and Jennifer Franzoni, and niece Reagan. He was known for his eclectic taste in music and wicked sense of humor. When he wasn’t cooking at work he was cooking at home, constantly experimenting and developing new recipes. He, Carla, and Spenser delighted in having family and friends over for backyard parties and jumping in the car for road trips, on and off the beaten path.
Visiting hours are Sunday, July 9th 12:00-3:00pm at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. An Episcopal service will be held immediately after visiting hours at the Funeral Home.
Mitch was more than just a cousin to me; he was like a brother. Growing up, we always lived within a few minutes’ walk from each other, and at times, we even shared a home. The memories we created together during our childhood will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Not only did we share a close familial connection, but we also shared a circle of childhood friends. As we grew older, our bond grew even stronger. He was not just a cousin or a friend; he was a constant pillar of support and love in my life.
Mitch’s presence in our lives made all of us better people. His kindness, warmth, and humor had a profound impact on those around him. His absence will be felt deeply, as his love touched the hearts of all who knew him. Mitch will be remembered for his caring nature, his infectious laughter, and his ability to bring joy to those around him.
His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will live in my heart and his first apple pie in my chipped tooth. May he find peace in the journey ahead.
Farewell, Mitch. May you embark on your final journey with Godspeed. You will be missed beyond words.
All my love,
Tony

With deepest condolences I send you both gentle hugs. Dearest Dimitri will always be a shining light in my memories. Although I haven’t seen your family in years, I always expected to once again be in Dimitri’s warm and utterly delightful presence. I shall very tearfully always miss him.
Carla and Spencer,
I am so sorry to hear this news! Dimitri was such a wonderful man to know. Every time Owen and I drive up Warner Road we would always think of you all. Sending love, sympathy and prayers, and so grateful that we were able to know him.
Carla & Spencer,
My deepest sympathies are with you both. Although I never met Dimitri I can tell he was an amazing person who loved you both dearly. May he rest in peace. He will forever live in your heart forever.
I met Dimitri when he was my customer at Partyka Chevy. When my wife and I joined St John’s church several years ago I was delighted to see Dimitr across the aisle. He was a great guy. My condolences to all
