Dolores A. Hemstock Altieri, 93, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford with her two daughters Lisa and Susan by her side. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to the late Frank H. Altieri. Dolores was born in New Haven on May 11, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Earl and Anna Johnson Hemstock. Mother of Lisa Altieri, Susan Altieri, and the late Frank A. Altieri. Grandmother of Kristine Altieri English and her husband Jeff and the late Nicholas Altieri and his wife Tracey Caldwell Altieri. Great grandmother of Angelina Altieri, Alyssa Altieri, Alex Altieri, Bryson English, and Ryonna English. Dolores is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Thomas Hemstock and sister Earlene Hemstock Federico. Dolores worked at Yale New Haven Hospital as an operating room technician but left the healthcare field to pursue a career in the New Haven Public School system. Her passion was working with special needs children; she pursued her passion and worked at The Celentano School for Special Needs Children in New Haven until her retirement. Dolores loved to travel and upon her retirement she and her husband traveled to Sweden, Norway, and Italy to visit both their maternal and paternal grandparents’ homes. She was active within the North Haven Senior Center Community and would go to many different activities and events; she loved meeting new people and made many lifelong friends. She also loved to bake, sew, and was an avid reader. She continued with adult education classes after retirement, learning the Swedish language, cake decorating, pastry baking, and re-teaching herself to play the guitar, which she had played in grammar school. Dolores was an avid supporter of her daughters’ sports careers and spent many winters and springs faithfully traveling to all Big East basketball and softball games. She continued to keep up with the Providence Lady Friars and the UConn women’s basketball teams.
The visiting hours will be on Friday, January 12th from 5 to 7 PM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue on Saturday morning at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

I am so sorry for your loss. Lisa and Sue,I remember from years ago how she was your biggest fan. Always ready for the next game. I am sure she will still be cheering you on and watching over you from heaven.
Dolores was my mother in law for 22 years and we continued as friends because we had a great relationship. She loved her family and was loving and generous to all. Her grandkids loved her very much and Kristine will miss her!! Her grandson passed 12 years ago. He was very close to her also. I have good memories of our connected lives.
To Dolores family, I am so sorry to hear about her passing. Dolores was my para assistant for years at Celentano. She was a beautiful, caring and helpful person who would do anything for you. Dolores was a great baker , her cakes were delicious especially her frosting. I will miss her deeply. RIP my friend ❤️
I worked with Dolores at Celentano School. Dolores was a kind and insightful assistant. I have fond memories of working with her during my years at Celentano School. I am happy to know that she had a long and fulfilling life after her retirement. My condolences to her family. am sure she will be remembered for her kindness.
