Donald J. Nitz, 81, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11th, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center, Meriden with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Lois Bentley Nitz. Donald was born in Meriden on November 19th, 1941, was the son of the late Theodore and Nellie Koblish Nitz and stepson of the late Everlyn Nitz. Donald earned a bachelor’s degree in business from UConn, was a real estate appraiser all his life and was the owner/operator for 40 years of the Donald Nitz & Associates. Don was an MAI, in 1979 was President of the CT Chapter of the American Institute of Real estate Appraiser. He enjoyed going to the beach, taking car rides, playing with his cats, working around his yard, but most of all, Don enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports and loved them all unconditionally. Father of Jacqueline Perrotti (Massimo Baglioni), Jennifer Suraci (Brian), and Janice Orth (Daniel IV). Grandfather of Domonic and Anthony Perrotti, Ethan and Conner Suraci, Daniel V, Zachary and Emily Orth. Brother of William Nitz (Geraldine). Stepbrother of Linda Carfora (James).
The visiting hours will be Friday morning, Sept. 15th from 9:15 to 11:15 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church 139 N. Orchard Street, Wallingford at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Wallingford
My condolences to the family. Don worked for the Town of Wallingford for many years as an appraiser for tax appeals and purchases. Truly one of the nicest people one could meet. Not many like him these days. He was always pleasant, friendly and professional. I enjoyed working with him over the years. I hope you find comfort in knowing that we and others thought very highly of Don.
