Donald Richard Hansen, Sr., 82, of Northford passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9th, 2022, at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Marie “Cookie” Cifarelli Hansen for two months shy of 58 years. Donald was born in New Haven on April 22, 1940 and was the son of the late Oscar Edwin and Julia Elsie Pettersen Hansen and served his country faithfully in the US Army. He had worked as a mechanic for SNET for many years until his retirement and later as a custodian for the Branford school system. Father of Lisa (Anthony) Durso, Julie (Lee) Panagoulias and the late Donald R. Hansen, Jr. Grandfather of Brittni (Steve) Torino, Juliana (Nick) Olovson, Madisen and Benjamin Panagoulias. Brother of Barbara Colburn and the late Alice Johnson and Doris Gargone. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Donald was looking forward to becoming a great-grandfather in November.
The visiting hours will be Saturday morning July 16th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home. A graveside service with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Closer to Free Fund, Smilow c/o Yale Ne Hospital Development Office, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508.

Donnie was a wonderful person and neighbor. Always there if anything was needed. A great husband, devoted father and grandfather. Dear Cookie, Lisa and Julie you were lucky to have him and he will be sorely missed I’m sure. Wish we could be there with you. Miss you all.
