Doris Savelle Breuler, 87, formerly of Reeds Gap Road, Northford, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2018 at the Hamden Healthcare Center.  She was the beloved wife of the late William C. Breuler. Doris was born in Newburgh, New York on November 8, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Albert and Gertrude Miller Savelle.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Albertus Magnus College, and then attended Yale Graduate School.  She earned a master’s degree of art from Trinity College in Hartford and her 6th year in Educational Supervision and Administration from Fairfield University.  She was a teacher at the former St. Mary’s High School in New Haven for three years and later at Guilford High School where she was chairman of the English Department for fourteen years until her retirement.  She was a member of the North Haven Art Guild and was a painter of acrylic still lifes, exhibiting at the North Haven Art Guild and the Hamden Art League.  She was a member of the Elm City Kennel Club, the Kenilworth Kennel Club, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club of America, the Pekingese Club of America, the Pekingese Club of New Jersey and the American Sealyham Terrier Club.  Doris and her husband bred Dandie Dinmonts  in Northford and showed their dogs at competitions in the Northeast.

Friends may call Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11:15 to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven at 11:30 for the celebration of a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will immediately follow the mass in Northford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Patomac Valley Pekingese Club, P.O. Box 61005, Richmond, Virginia 23261.
