Edward J. Hager, Jr., 74, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the husband for over 18 years to Catherine R. “Kay” Bieryla Hager. Edward was born in Shamokin, PA on February 21, 1940; son of Eleanor Brennan Hager and the late Edward Joseph Hager, Sr. He served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Vietnam era having received the Combat infantry badge and bronze star medals. Edward had worked as a truck driver for Eastern Bag & Paper Company for many years and later as a shuttle driver for Gengras Motors of Meriden until his retirement. He loved model trains, going to the shows as well as building them. Father of Kathleen Tasonis (Gregory) and Brian Hager. Step-father of Joseph Wilson, David Wilson (Monica), and Nancy Reyes (Michael). Grandfather of Dan Hager, Gregory and Gabriel Tasonis, Daniella, Isabella and Dylan Wilson, Alyssa and Nicole Reyes. Brother of Timothy Hager (Donna) and James Hager (Louise). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven Wednesday morning, Jan. 7th at 9:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Barnabas Church, North Haven at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in the State Veteran’s Cemetery, Middletown. The visiting hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 6th from 5 to 8pm.
I am so sorry for your loss, our family's loss, of a great guy. Ed was always kind, gentle and caring…and a soldier to be honored. He will be missed here and blessed in heaven. God bless All his beautiful family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love from Sissy.
