Philomen Nowokunski McKechnie, 91, of Durham, formerly of West Haven for many years and Brooksville, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Middlesex Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Robert G. McKechnie. Philomen was born in Shirley, MA on May 29, 1923; daughter of the late Michael and Kazimira Milka Nowokunski; had worked for Western Electric for many years; was a member of the Red Hatters; loved to travel, doing arts and crafts; was very active in her church wherever she lived.  Mother of Robert (Adrian) McKechnie, John (Jane) McKechnie, Sandra Quiello, William McKechnie, Gregg (Rose) McKechnie and Edward McKechnie. Grandmother of Scott and Eugene (Jennifer) McKechnie, Matthew (Kate) Quiello, Christopher (Amanda) Quiello, Jonathan Quiello, Samantha McKechnie, Jeremy (Stephanie) McKechnie, Joshua (Justine) McKechnie, Cameron and Ashlyn McKechnie.  Sister of Hattie Mihalik, Irene Lipscomb, Edward (Carolyn) Nowokunski and the late Albina Poirier, Julia Swieca, Mary Therien, John, Michael, Joseph, Ted, Benjamin and Leon Nowokunski.  Also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday morning July 12th at 11:00 in St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven.  Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arthritis Foundation, 35 Cold Spring Rd., Rocky Hill, CT  06067.
