Florence M. Kenna Jetmar Lewis, a resident of North Haven for most of her life, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2016, at The Connecticut Hospice, Branford, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of 27 years to the late John J. Jetmar Jr., and 2 ½ years to the late Russell C. Lewis Jr. Florence was born in New Britain, daughter of the late Leo A. Kenna and Mary Pacinda Kenna Hury. She was a 1949 graduate of the former Grace New Haven School of Nursing, and became a Registered Nurse having worked for Yale-New Haven Hospital for 28 years until her retirement. Florence was a member of the Hamden Woman’s Club for 47 years and was named their “Woman of the Year” in 2014. She was a 22 year volunteer at The Connecticut Hospice, and a member of the Hamden Stroke Club.She loved dancing, especially polka, ballroom, and square dancing, being a member of the Temple Sweethearts (past President), Hamden Promenadors, and Todd’s Tigers. Florence was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, and spending time with her family. She was a parishioner of St. Barnabas Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister Mother of David J. Jetmar (Linda) of Hamden and Mary Jetmar Egan (Thomas) of Berlin. Grandmother of Ryan and Justin Jetmar, and Nicole Egan. Sister of Dorothy Vesci and the late Leo Kenna. Step-Mother of Robert Lewis (Alison), David Lewis (Cindy), Susan Piontek (Thomas), Thomas Lewis, and Holly Mulcahey. Florence is survived by many step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her step-father John Hury, brother-in-law Anthony Vesci Sr., and sister-in-law Henrietta Kenna. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to all the doctors, nurses and staff on Verdi 4West, St. Raphael campus/Yale-New Haven Hospital and The CT Hospice for the excellent care and comfort they gave to Florence. She will always be remembered for the kindness, friendship, and love she showed to everyone who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to meet directly at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven, on Saturday morning, Nov. 19th at 10:00 to attend a Mass of Christian Burial and are also invited to attend the committal services immediately following in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Friday from 5 to 8pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.
