Florence Maguire Newton, 91, of Wallingford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the MidState Medical Center, Meriden with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Gorham I. Newton Jr.  Florence was born in New York City, New York on February 16, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Bridget McEnroy Maguire. She worked at the Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City, at General Electric in New York City, later at St. John’s University in Queens, New York and retired from Hewitt Health and Rehab in Shelton where she was an executive secretary.  Florence was an avid reader, enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally.  Florence was the Mother of Pamela Newton-Coombs (Rick Coombs), Carolyn Orrell (Paul) and Valerie Centone (Al).  Grandmother of Jennifer Gyarfas (Brendon), Emily and Ricky Coombs, Eric and Timothy Orrell, Gabrielle and Megan Benedetto.  Sister of Dolores Hanley and the late Mary Donovan, Eugene, John, James, and Jerome Maguire.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday morning at 9:15.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church, North Haven at 10:00. Interment will follow in the In Memoriam Cemetery.  The visiting hours will be Friday from 5 to 7:30 pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to St. Jude Research Children’s Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
