Frank G. Contento Sr., 91, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Yale New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael Campus surrounded by his loving family.  He was the loving and devoted husband of 64 years to Elizabeth Smolenski Contento.  Frank was born in New Haven on April 8, 1930 and was the son of the late Catello and Anna Esposito Contento. He served his country faithfully in the US Navy as a Sonarman 1st Class.  During the Korean Conflict, he received a commendation for locating an enemy submarine.  Frank worked as a Systems Engineer for the former Bendix at Sikorsky’s in Stratford.  The highlight of his 40-year employment was when he was assigned to be stationed in Italy for three years with his family.  After his retirement he worked with AARP as a Smart Driver Course Instructor for many years.  Frank was a devoted parishioner of St. Barnabas Church, where he served as a eucharistic minister and taught religious education.  He enjoyed cooking, writing poetry, and helping make deliveries or serving for the Midnight Run in New Haven.  Frank was an avid fan of UCONN Women’s basketball, New York Yankees, and the New York Giants.  By far, his greatest joy was found in family.   He was exceptionally proud of his grandchildren and great grandson and revelled in their accomplishments. Beloved father of Diane (David) Senecal, Frank (Lucia) Contento Jr. and Tracey (Michael) Lepore.  Loving grandpa to Alessa Friello, Frank Contento III, Michael Idolo Lepore, Christopher Lepore and Giuliana Contento.  Great grandpa of Santino Friello.  Predeceased by his siblings George, Virginia, Ralph, and Rachel. 

The visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 3rd at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue from 4 to 7 PM.  Family and friends are invited to go directly to Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven on Saturday morning at 10:00 to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in the All Saints Mausoleum with full military honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
