Fred DePonte, 84, of 50 Grand Avenue, New Haven passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, West Haven. He was the beloved husband of the late Antoinette Colavolpe DePonte. Fred was born in New Haven on March 23, 1932; son of the late Antonio and Frances D’Amato DePonte; served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean war; had worked for the FMR Grinding Wheel, West Haven, Milford Tool for many years and later in shipping and receiving for GMC Truck Part, North Haven. Fred was an avid football enthusiast. Father of Lorraine (Ralph) Console. Grandfather of Michael (Mary) Lucibello and Tracey (Kevin) Sweeney. Great-Grandfather of Shannon, Joseph and Sean Sweeney. Brother of Anna Carbone and the late Frank DePonte, Rae Suraci, Josephine Anastasia, Connie Showl and Jennie Carbone.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Wednesday morning at 9:15. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Rita Church at 10:00 am. Interment with full military honrs will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm.
