Ghassan Akel, 66, of Branford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Yale New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael’s campus with his family by his side. Ghassan was born in Syria, on April 20, 1951 and was the son of Laurance Garib Akel and the late Antoine Akel. He was a Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioner Technician Foreman. Ghassan was a musician who enjoyed playing the organ, guitar and singing. Beloved father of Rami Akel and Rabab (Adam) Canosa. Loving grandfather of Cooper Canosa. Also survived by his former wife Suhaila Akel, a good friend Gloria Viviana Lopez, three brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue Friday evening at 8:00. Relatives and friends may call from 6:00 pm until time of service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
