Gilbert “Gil” Mandy Jr., 93, of North Haven, Connecticut, passed away on November 10, 2023. Born January 22, 1930, in Karscha, Hungary, to Elizabeth and Gilbert Mandy, Sr., Gil immigrated to New York in 1940 before settling in Wallingford, Connecticut. While attending Lyman Hall High School, he fell in love with Elaine Castiglione. The couple married in fall 1952 and soon thereafter moved to North Haven, Connecticut, where they raised 5 children. Gil and Elaine also spent many memorable winters at their residence in Florida. He was an avid fisherman, skilled horseshoe player, bowler, and golfer, and passionate Red Sox fan. He took great pride in his service as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, and also served as an administrative specialist and supply technician for the Army National Guard in Hartford, Connecticut, achieving the rank of Warrant Officer. Gil’s long military career was a source of pride to his family.
Loving husband of Elaine for 71 years. Beloved father of Bruce and Kathy Mandy, Lynda and Robert Cummiskey, Liz and Lee Ramsauer, Ellen and Dennis Perrin, and Karen and Peter Doyle. Cherished grandfather of Matthew, Jeffrey, Anna, Kurt, Drew, Scott, Courtney, Ashley, Bobby, David, Mandy, Aryn, and Caitlin. Proud great-grandfather of 10. Gil was a devoted family man whose legacy lives on through his loved ones. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
The family will receive relatives and friends at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Funeral procession will leave North Haven Funeral Home, after a brief viewing, at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Interment with full military honors for Gil will follow at North Haven Center Cemetery, on Elm Street in North Haven.

Our VCH, Veterans Coffee House meets monthly at the Wallingford Senior Center which not only gives our Vets the chance to socialize but also take part in enjoying a guest speaker which are related to military topics. We were founded in 2017 by Mark Halliday and Robert Boucher. Our Veterans are an exceptional group and our intention is to offer assistance and support.
At this very difficult time, our group would like to honor the loss of Gilbert Mandy as a fallen brother. Our military Veterans send out their heartfelt condolences to the Mandy family and friends.
