It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Speilman Morin announce her passing on March 18, 2019 at the age of 93. Helen was born on March 7, 1926 in Pomfret, Connecticut to the late James and Annie (Windle) Spielman. She is also predeceased by eight siblings. Helen was married at the Holy Trinity Church in Pomfret to Ulde “Jimmy” Morin for 61 years until his passing in 2008. They spent many happy years living in Northford. They were long time members of St. Monica’s Church in Northford. Helen attended elementary school in a one room school house in Pomfret and graduated from Putnam High School. Helen was an avid gardener, talented knitter, seamstress, baker and prolific reader. She enjoyed making and giving away holiday crafts and loved bird watching. She worked as a secretary for the Olin Corporation and U.S. Repeating Arms, both in New Haven. Helen will be lovingly remembered by daughter Janice Morin of Wallingford, and daughter and son-in-law Linda and Tom Conroy of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She will also be lovingly remembered by grandson and wife John and Lisa Gagne; grandson and dear friend Jimmy Gagne and Marie LaPointe; grandson and wife Will and Lori Conroy; and grandson Joey Conroy, as well as great granddaughter, Hailey Conroy. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Helen spent the last few years first at Meadowbrook of Granby and finally at Twin Maples Health Care Facility in Durham. Their outstanding commitment to her well-being is gratefully acknowledged by the family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at St. Ambrose Parish in St. Monica’s Church on Tuesday, April 2nd at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Paul Newman Hole in the Wall Camp, 555 Long Wharf Drive, New Haven CT 06511 or the recreation department of Twin Maples Health Care, P.O. Box 423, Durham, CT 06422. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, has been entrusted with arrangements.
