Jean Meeneghan Mercuri 89 of Wallingford, formerly of North Haven, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 9, 2018 at Masonicare Health Center. She was the beloved wife of 36 years of Robert A. Mercuri and was predeceased by her first husband, Robert W. Meeneghan. Jean was born in Cooperstown, NY on October 7, 1929, the daughter of the late Anthony and Clara Stone Crowley. Jean enjoyed her years as a Teacher’s Aide in the Media Center of North Haven High School and volunteered often as a parishioner of St. Barnabas Church. Besides enjoying time with her family, she loved to sew, restore furniture and would never miss the chance to dance. Her warm and loving spirit will be missed by her children Michael (Linda) Meeneghan, Kim (Honore) Meeneghan, Karen (Charles) Sicard, Barbara (James) Blackie; stepchildren Carol (Dennis) Hannon and Janice (Steven) Grossman; loving brother Robert (Joyce) Crowley of New Jersey, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave. on Thursday morning at 11:00. Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 11:30. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice
We are so sorry for your loss. We will pray for Jean and her family to find peace in Christ.
So sad to hear about your mom. I have so many happy memories at that house, mom always making me do the dishes before we could go out!!! I’ll carry those memories as I hope you will carry those that make you smile. I’m sure she is up square dancing away with a smile on her face. I always felt this poem says it best:
Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day
Unheard, unseen, but always near
Still loved, still missed, and very dear
For death leaves a heartache no one can heal
Love leaves a memory no one can steal
Love you, Leslie
My thoughts and prayers to Mr. Mercuri, his daughters and their families and the Meeneghan I was so happy to see that two wonderful people people could find happiness after the loss of their spouses. Again my most sincere sympathies!
So sorry to read this. I remember her very well
Our condolences and our deepest sympathy Skip and Gerry Gamsby

But will be so missed here on earth.
Sending lots of hugs to you all. I really liked your Mom! She was a strong, lovely lady.
Fond memories of Jean and my North Haven High School years..
Love to all.

Did not know of the passing Gene Meeneghan Mercuri. Just found this page. We were neighbors on Quinnipiac Avenue in the Montowese section of North Haven. My mother Sheila Grove passed away shortly after on December 14, 2018. Condolences to the entire Meeneghan and Mercuri families. May Gene Rest In Peace.
