Johanna Weiss Scholze, 103, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Whitney Manor, Hamden. Johanna was born in Jablonec nad Nisou, Czechoslovakia on July 29, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Emil and Stefanie Schier Weiss. She dedicated 32 years of her life as a Laboratory Technician in the Organic Chemistry lab at Yale University. Johanna lived and raised her family in West Haven until moving to North Haven 4 years ago and most recently to Whitney Manor. She will be remembered as a very strong woman who lived through the invasion of her homeland during World War II and later the loss of her 2 beloved sons. Johanna adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her eyes lit up when she saw them. She was a long-time member of the Harugari Singing Society of West Haven and her secret to longevity was eating dark chocolate. She is survived by her daughter Evelyn (Anthony) DelGrego, daughters-in-law Suzy Anderson and Siegrid Scholze, grandchildren Hanna and Stephanie Scholze, Danielle (Matthew) Payne and Michael (Carol) DelGrego, great-grandchildren Kensi and Lucas Payne, several nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was predeceased by her sons Harold and Steven Scholze and her four siblings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Whitney Manor for the excellent care and compassion shown to Johanna during her time there.

The visiting hours will be Thursday morning, January 18th from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.
