John E. Deneen, 68, of North Haven, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. He was born in New Haven on July 23, 1951 and was the son of the late John Francis Deneen and Lorraine Cavanaugh Deneen. Jack was an ace mechanic for more than 50 years, loved to fix things, and possessed a preternatural ability to understand how complex things work. He was a good man and will be missed. He is survived by his brothers of Michael P. Deneen and David P. Deneen, and a sister, Patricia A. Deneen. A memorial service will be held when it is again safe to do so.
Private funeral services have been entrusted to The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.
So sorry to hear… fond memories from long long ago.

You can call that kid up from 2,000 miles away and tell him the problem and he’ll tell you exactly what it is

So sorry for your loss Patty. ❤️
I will remember John as the car whisperer.
He would watch Michael work and worry a while, smiling and chuckling but eventually always gave the solution that fixed whatever motor Michael was working on.
Sorry to hear about jack passing. He was a big part of our “extended race family” we always enjoyed seeing him at lime rock park. He always made time to come by and say hello. He will be missed, but will always be there in our hearts. Rest well friend.
I was in shock when I learned of Jack passing. Having known him for well over 20 years , exclusively at Lime Rock Park, he was an integral part of the LRP family for many years. He was always willing to lend a hand and liked socializing with the dozens of Boy Scouts that were part of our camping area. He will be sorely missed, not just by his family and close friends, but by man, many others that crossed paths with him over the years at LRP. God speed Jack.
My sympathy goes out to Jack’s family. A very generous soul who helped my daughter to launch a free library at our local social services office.
Jack had eyes that smiled! Quiet at first, but much to say. He will be sincerely missed by many, including me. I looked forward to seeing him every summer at Limerock Park and his company around the campfire. Won’t be the same without him, the camper, the car, the lights, the music, and his laughter! I was so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great guy of many talents. My condolences to his family.
I remember countless nights where Jack and I would talk for hours about things that would sound like a foreign language to 99% of people. He was by my definition a genius, and a good man. I will really miss walking up and from a distance seeing the led ufo above his amazing custom camping rig/car hauler covered in home made technological wonders. He was a kind soul and his presence will be missed by many that won’t be heard from here, but those who loved him should know he had an impact on so many of us.
We’ll miss you Jack.
-Ryan
Jack will be greatly missed at all Lime Rock Park events. He was Mr. LRP to everyone who knew him. We personally camped next to him at the LRP event we went to. He was a friend that helped everyone who need help. He had much information on most things and shared that information. We all were so much impressed with his converted bus camper that not only had solar power and running water but had room for his bug eyed Sprite. Only Jack could come up with a way to put the Sprite inside the bus! Rest in peace our friend.
We will miss him so much. we knew him from camping at Lime Rock Park the last 20 years, he was a friend and always willing to help us out especially when we would forget something. We believe that he will always be camping with us, in spirit, at Lime Rock
My heart was broken when I heard of Jack’s passing. We meshed on so many things especially his love of cars & auto racing. I’m from New Jersey & only saw Jack 3 or 4 times a year but we were best buddies. I will miss him forever. RIP my friend.
I have know Jack through the Boy Scout Lime Rock connection. He was always great with the scouts and always had great advice for the boys in Troop 11. He was a lot of fun to talk too and I will always cherish the time we spent around the campfire ring listening to his musics powered with his powered bus. You will be missed my friend. Scoutmaster Troop 11
My condolences to family and friends of Jack. I met Jack at the Boy Scout Campsite at Lime Rock events.
Always great company to be hanging out with. Jack will be missed.
My entire family extends our deepest condolences to your family for your loss.
Jack was a great guy !
So very sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. He was a great plethora of knowledge at Lime Rock. We used to introduce all the newcomers to a good game of “You don’t know Jack!” He always entertained us something new every year. We will miss him greatly.
David, Patty and Michael, my deepest condolences to you all. Jack has always been a legend, I have many fond memories of him from my childhood. The first time that I saw Hagrid on the Big screen, I immediately smiled and thought of Jack. May his memory bring you more smiles then tears.
Just found out about John today. Knew John since 6th grade Village Street school, right through high school. Always friendly . Lost track after high school but got reacquainted in the last decade at Music Under the Stars on North Haven green. John was always there showcasing his bugeye Sprite and willing to talk about anything, especially his bugeye!
Just learned, what a shame. One of the quiet kids in school I didn’t get to know as well as I would have liked to. Think I got to know him more at Parese Motors in North Haven after graduation where he worked for years. Nice guy with a good soul. I had heard about his school bus that could carry his car but never had the privilege of seeing it. RIP John. We’ll all be seeing him soon enough.
