John E. Freitag, 77, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 28th, 2022 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Marie Iovino Freitag. John was born in New Haven on February 17, 1945 and was the son of the late John and Cecelia TenEyke Freitag. A graduate of Wilbur Cross High School, John served his country faithfully in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. He worked for the US Postal Service for many years until his retirement. John was a former little league baseball coach in North Haven, enjoyed golfing, oldies music and was a member of the Jolly Timers. Father of John Paul Freitag and Steven Ralph Freitag (Emily). Beloved and proud grandfather of Olivia, Kaitlyn, and Natalie Freitag. Brother of Virginia Johnson (the late Charles), Cecelia Gianelli (Joseph) and Mary Hannon (Richard). Brother-in-law of Lisa Kleinberg (Barry), Cindy Piccerillo (Jon) and Michael Iovino (Linda). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Private services have been entrusted to The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clelian Center, 261 Benhan Street, Hamden, CT 06514.
