John Henry Graef, Jr., 87, of North Haven, passed away peacefully onThursday, June 7, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Nancy Williamson Graef. John was born in New Haven on October 15, 1930 and was the son of the late John H. Graef, Sr. and Helen Sautter Graef. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. John worked at Yale University Press for 16 years and later was the owner of John Henry’s Copying & Printing Center of North Haven for 37 years. He was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, North Haven, serving on the vestry and as senior warden for many years. Chairman of the North Haven Library Board, member of Peter’s Rock Association, active member and past president of the North Haven Rotary Club for 37 years and was Rotarian of the Year and a two time Paul Harris fellow. He was honored to be the recipient of The Education Foundation Community Service Award. Father of Susan Graef Pace and Cheryl Laudano (Frank). He took pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie and Sara (Megan) andgreat-granddaughter Braelyn. Brother-in law of Evelyn Graef (Florida), James Williamson (Virginia), Jean Stout (Pennsylvania), andPatricia Heath (Virginia).. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Helen Beazley and a brother William P. Graef.
A memorial service will be conducted in St. John’s Episcopal Church on Saturday morning, June 16 th at 11:00 with military honors to follow. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North HavenRotary Foundation, P.O.
