John Henry Raab, 70, of Northford, passed away peacefully on Friday March 30, 2018. He was born June 24, 1947 in New Haven, the son of John William and Concetta Zambrano Raab.

John leaves his loving wife of 42 years, Wendy Sullivan Raab, and his beloved daughter, Megan. He also leaves behind Will Cowen, who was like a son to him; his brother, Gary Raab; brother in law Keith (Sachiko) Sullivan; sister in law Sharon (the late Marc) Sullivan, and his nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his canine companion, Skye, and his dear friends John Kasarauskas, Bob O’Connor, and Dennis Scinto.

John was a true family man, who enjoyed summer backyard picnics, watching old movies (especially westerns) and visiting his favorite places throughout New England. John was an avid history buff, whose extensive knowledge of World War II was kindled by his father and uncle, both veterans. He was a lifelong model builder, who constructed sailing ships, airplanes and tanks, and he thoroughly enjoyed sharing his love of hobbies with anyone and everyone.

John previously worked at U.S. Steel, where he met his wife, and retired as a U.S. Postal carrier.

John’s family wishes to thank the Ramage 5 staff at Masonicare Health Center for their compassionate care and support.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be private. Friends and family may join his family for a memorial service at the chapel in the Masonicare Health center in Wallingford on Friday, April 13 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Masonicare Health Center/The Masonic Charity Foundation.
