John P. Onofrio, 78, of Northford, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of the late Marie Vitaletti Onofrio.  John was born in New Haven on September 14, 1943 and was the son of the late Rose Iannotti Anaclerio.  He was the former owner and operator of New Haven Mechanical Contractors for many years and was a member of Connecticut Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 777.  John was always very passionate about being a plumber and was devoted to his profession all his life.  He loved all animals and feeding the ones that came into his yard with pieces of Italian bread.  John enjoyed watching stock car racing and the times he spent at 91 Diner in New Haven with friends and their entire staff.  His greatest joy was cooking and spending time with his family whom he loved unconditionally.  Beloved father of Deborah (Thomas) Ciarlo, John (Cheryl) Onofrio, Robert, and Donna Onofrio.  Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Laura and Stephanie DellaCamera, John Jr, Lindsey, Julianna, Angela, Adriana, and Robert Onofrio, Alyssa, and Nicholas Mancini.  Great grandfather of Mikeal DellaCamera.  Brother of Eugene Onofrio, Joanne Scranton, and the late Olympia Peccerillo.  Also survived by many special nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his loving dog and best friend Ace.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to John’s neighbors who would always check in on him and to Cindy Prodoti for taking Ace on his daily walks.     

The visiting hours will be on Sunday, April 10th from 2 to 5 PM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  Family and friends are invited to go directly to Saint Ambrose Parish at St. Monica Church, 1331 Middletown Avenue, Northford on Monday morning at 10:30 to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in All Saints Cemetery.
