John Patrick Devaney 66, of East Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his family close by his side. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to Bina Ciola Devaney. Father of Shane Devaney and his loving wife Andrea, whom John viewed as a daughter of his own.. John was born in New Haven on June 30, 1957 and was the son of the late Patrick Joseph Sr and Mae Doyle Devaney. A graduate of Hamden High School, John had worked for the Hamden Public Works Department, Cinque Trucking, and later in grounds maintenance for Yale University until his retirement as a Locksmith from the Physical Plant at Yale University. John was a car enthusiast, enjoyed antiquing and landscaping but most of all he enjoyed being ”Peepa” to his three granddaughters Shea Frances, Arynn Joan, Rylie Mae and loved them all unconditionally. John is also survived by his sister Ellen Pellegrino (Vinny Riccio), his brothers Edward Devaney (Paula), Robert Devaney (Evelyn), several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Patrick Devaney Jr, and his brother-in-law August Pellegrino.
The visiting hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 355 Foxon Road, East Haven on Thursday morning, Sept. 28th at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
Worked with John for 30 years at yale he was a quite and kind man always willing to carry on a conversation he will be missed RIP John
