John Wisniewski of West Haven and Naples, Florida passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Physicians Regional Medical Center, Naples, FL. He was the beloved husband of Jean Roszkowski Wisniewski. John was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Stanley and Antoinette Durej Wisniewski. He was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Amesbury, MA then went to Boston College on a full football scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. John then joined the US Army and served faithfully during the Korean War as a Tank Commander in Alaska. He later did post graduate classes at the University of Massachusetts. He was the former owner and operator of the Credit Bureau of Ansonia for 27 years until his retirement. John was a real people person always loved talking to different people and joining numerous organizations. He belonged to many Boston College Clubs in FL and CT and personally set up the Mr & Mrs John Wisniewski Scholarship Fund (which is an athletic scholarship for football players at BC). John was a member of the Polish Heritage Club of Bridgeport, CT, the Polish Cultural Center of Washington D.C., the West Haven Rotary Club, life member of the West Haven Elks, member of the American Legion in Amesbury, MA and a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church, New Haven CT. John was also a very active member of the Birmingham Foundation Group, was a past board member and served on the Finance Committee for the VNA of South-Central CT, was Past President of the West Haven, CT Chamber of Commerce, past vice chairman of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Valley Red Cross and the Community Development Action Program of West Haven, CT. He was past member of the West Haven Advisory Committee, past board member of the Credit Data Service, past president of the New England Credit Bureau, past board member of both the American Collectors Association (A.C.A.) and the West Haven Rotary Club, past president of the Southern Exchange of Finance Companies, past director of both the Consumer Credit of Greater New Haven, CT and Greater Bridgeport, CT , the International Consumer Credit Executives (ICCA) and past president of the Associated Credit Bureau of CT (ACB). John was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the West Haven Rotary Club, both the Associated Credit Bureau State Leadership Award and Gold Key Leadership Awards, had the “Service Above Self Scholarship” set up in his name by the West Haven Rotary Club for West Haven students. John was also an avid sports fan, especially football.
The visiting hours will be Sunday, January 20th from 2 to 5 pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Monday morning Januay 21st at 10:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Stanislaus Church, State Street, New Haven, CT at 11:00 am. Interment with full military honors will be on Tuesday, January 22nd at 1:30 pm in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Amesbury, Mass. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of John Wisniewski may be made to the “Service Above Self Scholarship” c/o West Haven Rotary Club or the Mr & Mrs John Wisniewski Scholarship Fund c/o Boston College.
