Josephine Gatto Provenzano, 88, loving wife to the late Benny Provenzano, a loving and devoted mom to the late Frank Provenzano, Mary (Mark) Minotti and Carmen Provenzano, a loving and dedicated Nana to Michael-Benjamin (Emily) Minotti and Donna (Alec) Wald, and a loving and proud Super Nana to her great-granddaughter, Sophia Marie Wald, passed away unexpectedly on November 10, 2021 in Hobe Sound, Florida. Josephine was born in Belmonte, Calabria Italy and grew up in Cosenza. She married Benny Provenzano and came to America shortly thereafter. They lived in Bridgeport and later built their home in Trumbull, where she raised her children. Josephine worked at Norman Dress Shop as a seamstress and eventually, was hired by Sikorsky Aircraft. Both her and her husband, Benny, worked at Sikorsky with Josephine working day shift, while Benny worked the nightshift so there would always be someone there to watch the kids. Josephine eventually became Lead Person in the Parts Crib, having several employees under her.  She was so proud of her accomplishments at Sikorsky, such as receiving her certification in driving a Towmotor and learning the many facets of the computer, especially inventory. When Josephine retired from Sikorsky, she then moved to North Haven, where she kept herself busy with watching her grandchildren and being a member of The Sikorsky Club.

Josephine’s claim to fame, however, were her cookies and her garden. You would always find an upright freezer full of cookies around the holidays and her jars of tomato sauce lining the shelves of her garage. Josephine grew her own oregano and other herbs, and a multitude of vegetables. Nothing gave her greater joy than her family and the Holidays, where she always made so very special. From the Snow Village to the Food to the Cookies, Josephine was dedicated to keeping the joy of family traditions. She welcomed everyone to her home and even gave a tray of chicken parmesan to Hector, her landscaper.

Josephine also leaves behind her many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly from Connecticut, Seattle, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Italy and England. Josephine will always be remembered as a mom to all.
