My deepest sympathies to Joyce’s family and friends. I first met Joyce at NASIG, another professional library association, when she worked at Louisville. She and I also connected at other library-related conferences such as NUGM, NOTIS users group meetings in Chicago, as well as the ALA conferences. She was one of the smartest people I ever met and had a fabulous wit. Joyce had a wonderful can-do spirit and knew how to cut through red tape and library organization bureaucracy. I remember her sharing how she helped her sister on weekend at photography gigs. Another bright spirit gone too soon. (Susan Davis, University at Buffalo)
So very sorry to learn of Joyce’s death. I enjoyed knowing her through the American Library Association and seeing her at its meetings. Miriam Palm, Stanford University.
Dear Kathy and family, I am terribly saddened to learn of this loss and send you all my deepest condolences. Joyce was a wonderful, brilliant, and active person who I treasured as a friend. I met her on our first day of library school in Wisconsin, I can still see her sitting in the student lounge in a frilly pink dress and those blond curls; I was at that time heavy into my hippie phase in ripped jeans and t-shirts, and thought to myself, “Who *is* that woman?” And her wit and intelligence sparkled and we became the best of friends, often rooming together at ALA conferences. We saw each other through life’s ups and downs. I treasure the album of photographs she made of my wedding. She leaves a legacy of talent and heart. Again, my sympathies to all in her family, I know how devoted she was to you. May she rest in peace.
