Leroy William Nettleton, 67, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his family by his side. He was born in New Haven on March 12, 1956 and was the son of the late Nelson “Jack” and Joyce Noble Nettleton. Leroy had worked for Stop & Shop in East Haven for many years and competed in the Special Olympics, winning many metals. He was a big fan of the 60’s, some would say he was “stuck in the 60’s” and especially enjoyed the music and shows of that era. Leroy was always very independent and stayed active daily. Beloved brother of Jack (Claudia) Nettleton and Cheryl Nettleton. Loving uncle of Steven, Joshua, Joseph, Vincent, Ryan, and John Nettleton. Predeceased by his stepmother Violet Stone Nettleton. Over the years while Leroy lived at Lawrence Hall in Hamden he was always well cared for, and the family would like to extend a special thank you to John, Marcella, Cheryl, Toni, Lisa, and Lakesha for all their care and compassion.
Private funeral services have been entrusted to The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.

I’m gonna miss you Leroy. May you rest in paradise.
I always considered Leroy my second cousin, although not related, and have fond memories of him from Webb Street. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Sending prayers of peace and consolation from the Arpin Family. Rest in peace, Leroy.
I came across this completely by accident while looking at another obit. I knew Leroy. What a heckuva nice guy. I have a good Leroy story from WAY back! Leroy lived on Whitney ave in Hamden, at a group home that used to be there. Across the street was a Bar, first called Shalimar’s, then Dickerman house cafe. Leroy would come in a drink some beers, listen to the music, and smoke a LOT of cigarettes. I don’t know if anyone at the place he lived knew where he was, or what he was doing, but we all had fun! We all had a lot of fun in there, and everyone liked Leroy. This was all around 1979-1980. He was in quite a bit! I’m 61 now too, and the time flew, but every once in awhile, Leroy still came to my mind. We were all just “kids” then.
While out during the day, driving on the road,( back then) I would often see Leroy walking down Whitney avenue, one way or the other, and he always had a smoke going! When that pace closed, and he relocated, I never saw him again.
His picture right here brought back a lot of good memories, and Leroy is for sure one of the good memories for me.
To his family- I’m sorry for your loss.
