Louis Montauti, 80, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 41 years to Gina Frioni Montauti. Lou was born in Pietracamela, Province of Teramo, Italy on February 6, 1938 and was the son of the late Fiore and Teresa Sabatini Montauti.  He served his country faithfully in the US Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain.  Lou earned his Mathematics degree from UCONN and his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of New Haven.  He worked for US Motors for many years and later for Tenova I2S.  Electrical Engineering was his passion and he continued to enjoy working right up to the end.  While his careers took him all over the world, a piece of his heart was forever in Italy and “Luigino” enjoyed visiting family there his entire life.  An avid gardener, he was especially proud of his 12-foot tomato plants and bountiful floral gardens.  He was a wonderful cook and welcoming host, best known for his homemade raviolis and pancakes.  Lou was an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly of the Juventus and Roma soccer teams, the New York Yankees, and UCONN Men’s and Women’s basketball.  He remained an eager student of the world his entire life, always reading, especially about science and mathematics.  Above all else, Lou was unconditionally devoted to his family, both near and far.  He was their Patriarch.  His wife, children and grandchildren filled his life with joy, and he theirs.  He was the beloved father of Cynthia Amuro (Tony), Diana Yorkavich (Matt) and John Montauti (Sara).  Grandfather of Adrianna, Victoria, Brandon and Benjamin.  Brother of Joseph Montauti, Florence Knudsen (Tom) and the late Luigi Montauti.

Family and friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden on Friday morning at 11:00am to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in the All Saints Mausoleum with full military honors.  The visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.
