Marcia Devino Mele, 83, formerly of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Benchmark Senior Living in Hamden. She was the beloved wife of 48 years to the late Louis Gaudio Mele. Marcia was born in Waterbury on October 7, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Paul and Edith Apicello Devino. She leaves her loving children, Michelle Mele and Chris Maiocco, John, and Lisa Mele, four grandchildren Elycia DeLaurentis (Drew), Jack, Jenna, and Jeremy Mele. She was predeceased by her brothers Paul and Dennis Devino. Marcia earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State College and was a teacher for the North Branford School System for many years until her retirement. One of her pride and joys was when she received The Teacher of the Year Award. Her late husband was an avid boater, and they both spent many happy years on the water with their family and friends. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family who she loved unconditionally. She will be missed by all that knew her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marcia’s caregiver, Lori, and the staff at Benchmark Assisted Living for all their care and compassion.
The visiting hours will be on Sunday, March 3rd from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Paul VI Parish at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden on Monday morning at 11:00. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Michelle & John- we are keeping your families and your Mom in our prayers… We were so blessed to have both your parents in our lives, and miss them both dearly. Love, Alicia & Maria
Michelle: Sending thoughts of comfort and all my love.
I wish Bob and I could travel to New Haven to celebrate Marcia’s life. She was an exceptional human being and I have missed seeing her for many years. I have often spent time reminiscing about Marci and Louis and the too few times we’ve spent together but those that we’ve had were memorable. I do know how difficult it can be to lose a parent and I send the family my thoughts and prayers.
love, Mimi
